POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN LIBRARY & INFORMATION SCIENCE IS AN APPROVED PROGRAM BY UNIVERSITY GRANT COMMISSION (UGC) IN 2009.

OBJECTIVE

The Post-Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science aims at creating professional manpower for librarianship. The training will enable suitable candidates to eventually upgrade the post of library officer. The job fields are High School, College, Maddrasha, Public or Private University, Governmental Institutions, NGO and many more.

THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO

  • Provide knowledge of the library field.
  • Develop skills in practicing of library & information work.
  • Develop management and planning abilities in running of small and medium size libraries.
  • Be the First step to further studies at Master degree level and beyond at home and abroad.

FEES AND CHARGES

A student shall have to pay Tk. 42,016/- for completing Post Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science as per the following break up:

Semester-wise Payable Fess:

* First Installment (During Admission) = Tk. 23,916/-

* Second Installment (During 2nd Semester Registration) = Tk. 18,100/-

DURATION

Post-Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science is a one year (two semesters) program.

CLASS TIMING

Friday: 9.00 am to 8.30 pm Saturday: 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

i. Under Traditional Class System:

Graduation in any discipline with minimum total 5 (five) points having minimum two 2nd division in SSC & HSC (where 1st division = 3 points, 2nd division = 2 points and 3rd division = 1 point

ii. Under Grading System:

Graduation in any discipline with minimum GPA 2.50 in each of SSC & HSC or equivalent exam. In case of failure in obtaining 2.50 (but not less than GPA 2.00) in each of SSC & HSC or equivalent exam, combined GPA 6.00 in SSC & HSC or equivalent exam is required.

ADMISSION PERIOD

Students are admitted into “Post-Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science” program twice a year as follows:

ADMISSION TEST

Application for admission to Post-Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science shall be invited through an announcement in the National/Local Dailies and IIUC website www.iiuc.ac.bd twice a year. The deserving candidates have to apply through IIUC website www.iiuc.ac.bd or web link https://www.iiuc.ac.bd/home/apply-online Students are admitted through a competitive written test. Usually questions paper are designed as MCQ Type. Marks allocation of admission test are:

CLASS ATTENDANCE

A student shall have to attend minimum 70% of classes held in a course. Otherwise s/he is considered as a dis-collegiate student, as a result s/he is not allowed to sit for the Final Exam of relevant course.

EXAMINATION

  • The course shall be a full time course
  • Two Examination shall be held in each Semester: Mid-Term & Final Examination.

EVALUATION SYSTEM

Each course will be evaluated in the following ways.

Class Test, Attendance, Assignment, Oral test: 20% Marks
Mid-term Examination (After 10th Lecture) 30% Marks
Final Examination 50% Marks
Total 100% Marks

GRADING SYSTEM

IIUC follows the uniform grading system introduced by UGC for evaluating the academic performance of the students, as given below:

CALCULATION OF GPA AND CGPA

GPA: Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the number of credit hours attempted in a particular semester.

CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the total number of credit hours attempted at the diploma courses up to that point of time.
