Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)


The Dept. of EEE supports the mission of the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) through academic environment with a strong theoretical foundation, practical engineering skills, experience in interpersonal communication and team work along with emphasis on ethics, professional conduct and critical thinking. Further, the graduates will be trained to have successful engagement in research and development and entrepreneurship. The department invokes the desire and ability of life-long learning in the students for pursuing successful career in engineering. In short the departmental mission can be stated as follows:

The Mission of the department is to produce comprehensively trained, socially responsible, innovative electrical engineers and researchers of high quality who can contribute to national and global development.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

The Program Educational Objectives or goals are the statements that describe the expected achievements of graduates within first few years of their graduation from the program. The program objectives are guided by global and local needs, vision of the institution, long term goals etc. The program objectives are expected to continuously evolve in agreement with local employers, industry, R & D advisors, and the alumni. Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of B. Sc in EEE at IIUC are as follows:

PEO-1 Success in Electrical Engineering Fields To provide students with the knowledge of Basic Sciences in general and Electrical and Electronics Engineering in particular so as to acquire the necessary skills for analysis and synthesis of problems in generation, transmission and distribution
PEO-2 Industrial awareness & research To provide technical knowledge and skills to identify, comprehend and solve complex tasks in industry and research and inspire the students to become future researchers, scientists with innovative ideas.
PEO-3 Successful employment & professional ethics To prepare the students for successful employment in various Industrial and Government organizations, both at the National and International level, with professional competence and ethical administrative acumen so as to handle critical situations and meet deadlines
PEO-4 Being a leader in professional & societal environment To train the students in basic human and technical communication skills so that they may be good team-members, leaders and responsible citizen.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of Electrical and Electronic Engineering would be able to do at the time of graduation. A graduate of EEE will have

  • Engineering Knowledge: an ability to apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: an ability to identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Admission Requirements

  • Total GPA 6.50 in SSC/Dakhil & HSC/Alim but scoring not less than GPA 3.00 in any individual examination. Pass grade in Physics & Mathematics in HSC/Alim is a must; OR
  • Minimum 5 (five) subjects in O level and 2 (two) major subjects in A level with minimum ‘B’ grade in 4 subjects and ‘C’ grade in 3 subjects. Physics & Mathematics in A level is a must.

  • Design / Development of Solutions: an ability to Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: an ability to use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern Tool Usage: an ability to create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The Engineer and Society: an ability to apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: an ability to understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: ability to apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice. Create a plan for success that connects their undergraduate education to future career as well as use the techniques and skills to face and succeed in competitive examinations like BCS, GRE, TOEFL etc.
  • Individual and Team Work: an ability to function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: an ability to communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Life-long learning and Successful Career: an ability to recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broadest context of technological change as well as ability to use the techniques and skills to face and succeed in competitive examinations like BCS, GRE, TOEFL etc.
  • Project management and finance: an ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Admission Test

Application for admission to B. Sc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering shall be invited through an announcement in the National/Local Dailies and IIUC website twice a year. The deserving candidates have to apply through IIUC website or web link Students are admitted through a competitive written test. Usually questions paper are designed as semi broad & MCQ Type. Marks allocation of admission test are:

Admission Period

Students are admitted into “B. Sc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering” program twice a year as follows:

The Grading System for assessing the performance of the students shall be as follows:

Calculation of GPA and CGPA

GPA: Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the number of credit hours attempted in a particular semester.

CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the total number of credit hours attempted at the diploma courses up to that point of time.

Achieving minimum GPA in each semester

A student shall have to obtain minimum GPA 2.00 in each semester.

Achieving minimum GPA in for awarding degree

A student shall have to obtain minimum CGPA 2.50 for awarding degree.
